How to judge whether the drill bit needs to be sharpened?

 

1.Cutting effect: If obvious sparks and vibrations are found during the drilling process, or the surface of the drill hole is rough and uneven, it means that the drill bit edge may have been blunted and needs to be sharpened.

2.Cutting force: When drilling, more force is required to drill through the workpiece, which is also a signal that the drill bit needs to be sharpened.

3.Processing accuracy: Inaccurate drilling size, large or small hole diameter, indicating that the cutting edge of the drill bit has been worn.

 

 

Grinding drill bits requires certain skills and tools:

 

1. Pay attention to the symmetry of the top angle of the drill bit. Generally, the standard drill bit is 118 degrees or 120 degrees. The 118-degree drill bit is suitable for low-carbon steel and non-ferrous metals, and the 135-degree drill bit is suitable for tool steel and high-carbon steel. The sharpening should be at a small angle, otherwise it will be difficult to cut into the material.

2. Before grinding, ensure that the length and shape of the cutting edge are as similar as possible. The inclination angle of the drill bit should be 7-10 degrees. Use diamond to evenly grind the edge to ensure that the grinding wheel cannot have radial and end vibration.

3. The auxiliary platform should be within one millimeter of the grindstone. In order to facilitate the sharpening of the drill bit, you can draw several 60-degree lines in the auxiliary area to help us maintain the correct angle during the sharpening process.

4. Keep the drill bit parallel to the platform and keep the cutting edge horizontal

5. Check the grinding effect: The drill bit should stop after it is tilted up. Grind the convex arc of the rear end face into a bow-shaped bevel, which should be symmetrical on both sides, and the back-grinding cutting groove should also be symmetrical on both sides.

6. Regular inspection: After the drill bit has been used for a period of time, the cutting edge should be checked regularly, and sharpened in time to maintain good cutting performance.
